The German government is finalizing a subsidy package that could give Tesla more than $ 1 billion in government funding at its new battery factory in Gigafactory Berlin.

After announcing plans to build a large electric car factory in Berlin, Tesla confirmed that the project would include a large battery cell factory, reports Electrek.

At the same time as Tesla made the announcement, the German government announced plans to invest billions of dollars to promote the production of local cells to support the development of local electric vehicles.

Last year, a report said Tesla applied for the government grant.

Now, the German newspaper Tagesspiegel reports that Tesla could be a major beneficiary of the new program and protect about 1.14 billion euros ($ 1.35 billion).

According to the report, they came up with the money because of the number of jobs Tesla planned to build at the factory, which could add up to 2,000.

At Tesla's new factory in Germany, where Gigafactory's electric car at Grunheide near Berlin was expanded, more jobs would be built than ever before, according to the newspaper.

The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWI), led by Peter Altmaier (CDU), considers, as it describes Tagesspiegel's application, "the success of production and production of 2000 or more jobs in the area of the Aathe Gruenheide plant battery is real", he added.

The government is expected to decide on Tesla's application by the end of the year.

Tesla recently unveiled plans to begin production of the Model Y at Gigafactory Berlin in October.
