The Senate Republicans and Democrats expressed deep concern over Biden's administration on Tuesday, crying out that Secretary-General Antony Blinken was the only official witness to the US withdrawal from Afghanistan as both sides tried to lay the blame for the unrest.
Blinken, who appeared a day after testifying before a House committee for more than six hours, also questioned why the authorities were not prepared for the sudden collapse of the Afghan army; why planning to expel American citizens and vulnerable Afghanistanans did not happen immediately; and who made the decisions that led to the confusion of the broadcasts from Kabul airport as thousands tried to flee the Taliban.
Lawmakers on both sides of the road questioned why Biden officials would not make Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin available to answer questions, a lack that led to Democratic Alliance Chairman Robert Menendez threatening to reconsider the Pentagon nominees and issuing summonses to Austin and others.
